Amtrak Adds Saturday Evening Service on Hiawatha Route for the Holidays

This holiday season, travelers can leave their cars behind and skip I-94 between Milwaukee and Chicago as Amtrak Hiawatha Service adds a Saturday night round-trip.  Travelers can make evening plans for dinner, a show, holiday shopping and more on Saturday nights through the beginning of 2016.

With the added service listed below, travelers can enjoy the various holiday events and activities taking place in Chicago and Milwaukee.  Chicago’s calendar will be adorned with a myriad of holiday festivities — both annual traditions and new events — throughout the city’s downtown and neighborhood communities. Plan your seasonal adventure around the annual tree-lighting ceremony, a dazzling parade of lights, ice skating in Chicago’s iconic parks, and holiday performances at Chicago theatres. New evening trips between Milwaukee and Chicago will be offered from Saturday, October 3, 2015 through Saturday, January 2, 2016.  Train 343 will depart Chicago Union Station at 11:10 p.m. with intermediate stops in Glenview, Sturtevant, the Milwaukee Airport with a 12:39 a.m. arrival into Milwaukee.  Train 344 will depart Milwaukee at 10:40 p.m. with stops at the Milwaukee Airport, Sturtevant, Glenview with a 12:09 a.m. into Chicago Union Station.

Last year, the route carried nearly 800,000 passengers last year, ranking it among the top 10 Amtrak routes nationally. Amtrak Hiawatha Service trains are jointly sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (Illinois DOT). Amtrak eTicketing, printing of boarding documents at Quik-Trak® kiosks (except Glenview) and advance purchase are encouraged, but passengers can be ticketed on board without penalty since ticket windows are closed in the late evening.
