Vancouver, BC: Doors Open Vancouver – Saturday, October 3

During Doors Open Vancouver on Saturday, October 3, enjoy free, behind-the-scenes access to popular City of Vancouver sites! Learn what it takes to run a city while experiencing Vancouver’s architecture, green design, and cultural heritage at this all-ages event.  The event takes place at various locations through metropolitan Vancouver from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

San Diego: 2015 MCAS Miramar Air Show – October 2-4

The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show runs October 2-4 with the theme of “A Salute to Veterans and their Families.”  A significant number of those veterans and their families are stationed at MCAS Miramar or live in and around San Diego.  The show this year is salute to all those who have served or are presently serving.

This year, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Patriots Jet Team will demonstrate thrilling performances of fast-paced formation flying and choreographed aerobatic maneuvers.  The show will also welcome the Breitling Jet Team for their first U.S. tour.  The amazing lineup includes Sean Tucker’s “Oracle Challenger,” John Collver’s “Wardog,” Chuck Aaron’s Red Bull Helicopter, the Shockwave Jet Truck and much more.

Chicago: Museum Week – October 1-7

For seven days in October, the city’s top museums are joining together to celebrate Museum Week. Take advantage of discounted admissions, special exhibits, giveaways and more at each of the 12 participating museums. From culture to constellations, art to animals, this is your chance to experience Chicago’s most beloved institutions in a whole new way!

The Museums: Adler Planetarium, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago History Museum, The DuSable Museum of African American History, The Field Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Science and Industry, National Museum of Mexican Art, The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Shedd Aquarium.

New York: New Yorker Festival – October 2–4

This annual festival gathers together the biggest and most exciting names in fiction, journalism, poetry, graphic novels, screenwriting, directing and all-around culture-making for a weekend of panel discussions, readings, film screenings, musical performances, walking tours, food tastings and other events celebrating contemporary arts and entertainment. A sampling of interviewees in this year’s lineup: Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Billy Joel, Larry Wilmore and Sleater-Kinney. Look too for a food walk by Calvin Trillin, a panel discussion on the African-American experience in the US (featuring Ta-Nehisi Coates, among others) and a reading of Cleo, a new play based on the making of the movie Cleopatra.
