In an effort to reduce overall costs to the airline, United recently announced they will be cutting Cleveland as one of their hubs. This move will cut about 60% of United’s flights to and from Cleveland as well as cut about 470 jobs. United is presently working to save approximately $2 billion as United’s expenses are rising faster than the revenue that the airline is bringing in.
“Our hub in Cleveland hasn’t been profitable for over a decade, and has generated tens of millions of dollars of annual losses in recent years,” said, Jeff Smisek, United Airlines CEO. “The demand for hub-level connecting flying through Cleveland simply isn’t there.”
