Virgin America Flies Into the Sunset

Today was the first day that Virgin America and Alaska Airlines operated as one carrier. Yesterday, the Federal Aviation Administration awarded Alaska Airlines a single-carrier certificate meaning that the two airlines can now operate as one. In this case, the terminology used by airline crews to denote Virgin America will no longer be used.

United Airlines Adds Tahiti Starting Fall 2018

United Airlines announced it will begin service between San Francisco and Pape’ete, the capital of Tahiti, the South Pacific’s gateway to more than 118 islands in French Polynesia including Bora Bora, Moorea, the Marquesas and Raiatea. United is the only U.S. carrier offering nonstop service to Tahiti from the mainland United States. Tickets are now available for purchase at united.com.

American Airlines Announces New Service to Reykjavik, Iceland

American Airlines is adding another new destination to its seasonal European footprint when service begins to Reykjavik-Keflavik, Iceland (KEF) next summer. Service to Iceland’s capital and largest city begins June 7 from American’s Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) hub. In September, Icelandair announced new service between Reykjavik and Dallas-Fort Worth that begins in May 2018.

Farewell, Your Majesty: United Airlines Flies the 747, the “Queen of the Skies”, One Last Time

Today, United Airlines flew – for the final time – a Boeing 747 aircraft, the jumbo jet with the unmistakable silhouette that once represented the state-of-the-art in air travel.

Serving as the ultimate throwback, the airline recreated the first 747 flight operated by United in 1970 for today’s historic farewell journey. Flight UA747 departed from San Francisco with service to Honolulu with more than 300 customers, employees and distinguished guests onboard.
