Virgin America Flies Into the Sunset

Today was the first day that Virgin America and Alaska Airlines operated as one carrier. Yesterday, the Federal Aviation Administration awarded Alaska Airlines a single-carrier certificate meaning that the two airlines can now operate as one. In this case, the terminology used by airline crews to denote Virgin America will no longer be used.

Alaska Airlines announces new service between Orange County, California and Albuquerque

Alaska Airlines will begin daily, nonstop-service from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport to Albuquerque starting Aug. 18.

“We are pleased to bring low fares and another new nonstop destination to our guests in Southern California,” said John Kirby, Alaska’s vice president of capacity planning. “With this addition, Alaska will offer 21 peak, daily departures to nine destinations from John Wayne Airport, including Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.”

Alaska Airlines debuts new flights between San Diego and Newark, New Jersey

Alaska Airlines today begins new flights between San Diego and Newark, New Jersey, the airline’s first nonstop flight between San Diego and the New York City area.

“We continue to offer more nonstop options from San Diego for our valued Southern California customers,” said John Kirby, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of capacity planning. “Newark becomes our third East Coast destination from San Diego along with Boston and Orlando, and provides travelers easy access to the New York City metro area.”

Alaska Airlines is in a Newark State of Mind

Alaska Airlines announced a significant expansion to the New York City area with multiple new routes to Newark Liberty International Airport. The new service comes as the Federal Aviation Administration approved Alaska Airlines’ request to operate four additional daily flights to Newark. New service from Newark, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon and San Diego, California will start in November 2016, with new service to San Jose, California beginning in March 2017.
