Portland Burger Week through August 16

Many have come to know Portland, Oregon for their extensive microbrewery scene and what better food to be paired with a fantastic microbrew but an American classic, a made-to-order burger?  This week, Portland is celebrating Burger Week (through August 16) and like Portland’s popular Restaurant Week, Burger Week is just as sensational.

This year, over 30 locations, 34 to be specific have joined up to be a part of Burger Week.  Each of the burger joints are showing off their best and tasty burgers for you to dig your teeth into.  From the classic beef with melted cheddar to something far more extreme like lamb/goat burger mix with black truffle chevre, there’s something for all tastes this week. The best part of the whole week, you won’t have to dig deeply into your pocketbook because each of the 34 locations are offering a selection of options for $5.00 each.

Here are the restaurants that are participating: Alameda Brewing Co., All-Way, Bar Bar, Burnside Brewing Co, Church, Club 21, Dig A Pony, Double Barrel Tavern, Doug Fir Lounge, East Glisan Pizza Lounge, Elephants Delicatessen (NW 22nd), Elephants in the Park, Foster Burger, The Hop & Vine, Iconic, Kells Brew Pub (NW 21st), The Knock Back, Knuckle Sandwich PDX, North Light, Pause Kitchen and Bar, Portland Penny Diner, Rialto Poolroom Bar & Cafe, Rockin’ Robyn’s Sassy Burger, Slow Bar, Slowburger, smallwares, Spirit of 77, Star Bar, TILT – Handcrafted Food & Drink, Built For The American Workforce., Triple Nickel Pub, White Owl Social Club, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Pub, Ya Hala.

A reminder from the Portland Mercury for the Burger Week enthusiasts and a primer for the uninitiated: We offer the 5 Commandments of Burger Week:

  1. THEY WILL RUN OUT

These restaurants nearly get demolished each year. The top performers will sell nearly 3,000 burgers during Burger Week. They are getting hit like never in their histories. So, if a place runs out toward the end of a shift, take it like a champ: go back the next day, earlier, order your burger, and thank them for working their asses off to do this for you. Do Not Be A Shit To Our Restaurants.

  1. THERE WILL BE WAITS

People have been talking about Burger Week 2015 for months. It has become an institution in its two years. Don’t be surprised if restaurants have waits. In fact, be surprised if they don’t.

  1. YOU WILL TIP

$5.00 brings out the cheap in all of us, but really, you’re getting a $10.00-15.00 burger (many restaurants go way overboard with ingredients, trying to outdo each other), so please tip at least 20%. The people who are serving you are working harder during Burger Week than at any other point in the year. A kind word will also be welcome—these people are our friends and neighbors.

  1. YOU REALLY SHOULD BUY A DRINK AND/OR OTHER FOODS

While extra purchases are not a requirement, I think it says something good about you if you show a little love to a restaurant going above and beyond to bring you an awesome burger. Pick up some fries and a pint of Widmer, or a shot of Jim Beam! You’ll enjoy yourself more.

  1. CHECK TWITTER, FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM

Restaurants are encouraged to post their waits and remaining burgers for the day. Go to portlandburgerweek.com and don’t forget to tag your Instagram photos and tweets with #portlandburgerweek.
